SME Rokubancho Building
SME Rokubancho Building completed in 2001, is designed as an innovative
international company's office. It features energy conservation technologies
such as lattice-shaped louvers on the windows for shading sunlight,
an open core shaft for natural lighting and light control, ice storage

Izumi Garden
The office floors of the skyscraper Izumi Garden are located
higher than the expressway in front of it and therefore it can effectively
utilize the 20-meter open space at its bottom. As an attempt to
prolong the life of the building, office floors have a large void
space in the center to use natural ventilation and adjust to any
change of installations.

Roppongi Hills
The Roppongi Hills project is the largest-scale redevelopment in Japan.
The concepts are "Culture City" and "Vertical Garden
City" with green areas created by integrating small plots of
land and building high and compact on the combined site. To actively
work on energy conservation, energy saving systems are installed.

Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower
As the first project to apply Tokyo's Registered Important Cultural
Properties Specific District System, Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower (completed
in July 2005) is pioneering a concept of preservation and development.
While preserving the Mitsui Honkan Building, the project involves
constructing the Tower, sustainable for 100 years with high seismic
resistance and greater installation flexibility, on the same block.

Palaceside Building
Palaceside Building has a 200-meter-long facade and faces the Emperor's
Palace with full of green. The way Japan recovered and developed in
twenty years after the war is reflected in materials for the various
building components such as large glass curtain walls, louvers for
shading sunlight, and gutters. |

Harumi Island Triton Square
Harumi Island Triton Square in Tokyo's waterfront area, a multipurpose
complex with a large deck, has urban functions such as offices, commercial
and residential facilities and halls, which are combined with oasis-like
open space. The complex features district heating and cooling systems.

Setagaya-ku Fukasawa Symbiotic Housing
Setagaya-ku Fukasawa Symbiotic Housing was the first public symbiotic
housing complex in Japan, built in 1997, employing reused materials
from demolished buildings, rainwater reclamation, the greening roofs
and walls, and a biotope. It also features the residents' participation
in the construction plan including designs for the elderly and the
disabled.

Omotesando Hills
Nearly eighty years have passed since the construction of the
Dojunkai Aoyama Apartments in 1927. The long-familiar apartments are
now being redeveloped. As a regenerated building, Omotesando Hills
will reuse part of the existing facade. The new apartments designed
by Tadao Ando will have an ingenious spiral slope enclosing an atrium.

Marunouchi Building
Marunouchi Building, completed in 2002, locates in front of the
Tokyo Station. The facade of the lower part, shops and restaurants
area, succeeds the old Marunouchi Building. Higher office part has
exterior side fins and innovative systems, such as air barrier systems
and high resistance structures.

Shinjuku Mitsui Building
Shinjuku Mitsui Building, completed in 1974 was renewed in 2000. At
the foot of the building, "55 Square" the first genuine
sunken garden in Japan was constructed. It provides a public space
in fresh greenery and there are people coming together and taking
rests everyday.

The International Library of Children's Literature
The International Library of Children's Literature is a renovation
of the former library built in Meiji era (1868-1912). Adopting the
state of the art technology such as seismic isolation, it has been
regenerated and its function has been enhanced.

The Shinagawa Intercity project
The Shinagawa Intercity project began with infrastructure development
to improve the environment of the district. The large-scale complex,
completed in 1998, includes three office skyscrapers. They were designed
to ensure success in business as tenant buildings, to provide a high-quality
office environment that is functional and safe, and to be environmentally

Shimizu Institute of Technology, completed in 2003, was constructed
as a place for testing cutting-edge technology. The institute located
in the urban area features highly efficient air-conditioning systems,
a biotope on the roof, the mega-structure with seismic isolation,
and systems for controlling the electromagnetic environment and
for monitoring the construction and installation.

Takenaka Corporation Main Office
Takenaka Corporation Main Office, completed in 2004, demonstrates
building sustainability and workplace productivity. The 7-story building
features outside bracing structure, distributed cores, four light
wells, exterior precast walls and ducts made of recycled materials,
hybrid ventilation, and natural delighting from light wells.

of the competition for environmentally symbiotic housing. The residential
buildings are located along natural slopes and the pond and court
is sited in the center. The rooms obtain a sunny and airy environment.
It has a biotope, vegetable gardens and thickets. Presented at GBC'98.

Tokyo Gas Earth Port completed in 1996 has succeeded in reducing life-cycle
CO2 emissions by 25% through solar shading, natural lighting, and
cogeneration, which contribute to energy conservation, long life,
and amenity.

NEC Tamagawa Renaissance City, completed in 2000 is an office building
which is featured by resource recycling such as gray water reuse and
rainwater use, waste recycling improvement, organic waste composing.
Airflow windows for cutting perimeter load and daylight sensors for
controlling lighting contribute significant energy reduction. |
